Rescue, Resistance and Liberation
Whoever saves a single life, saves and entire world - The Talmud
During the Holocaust murder on a massive scale was possible because of the collaboration and indifference of local populations. However there were a small number of people in every country who showed courage, care and compassion, and who were prepared to risk their own lives to save the lives of others. Through these rescue efforts people were hidden and sheltered and thousands were helped to escape to safe havens.
The brave deeds of rescuers are acknowledged and commemorated in the Avenue of the Righteous at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
