The Third Reich
Jewish Life In Europe before the Holocaust
Jews have lived in Europe for over 2000 years. They constituted diverse communities made up of a broad spectrum of people. Some communities were well or partially integrated into the wider society whilst others were subjected to discrimination in a hostile environment.
When the Nazis came to power nine million Jews were living all over Europe. Some managed to emigrate before the outbreak of war, those who remained were all potential victims of the Holocaust. Some survived – most did not.
